I haven’t run into that automation bug so I can’t speak on that. The file manager on the right side pops out with the sample auto highlighted and ready to swap. One work around is to double click an audio clip, right click on the file name, and choose ‘Manage Sample File’. I agree that hot swapping is a pain to get to and should at least be mappable.

I haven’t used Ableton for serious video work, but I haven’t run into any issues when I have used video (Mac). If anyone knows any workarounds or thinks there's something I'm missing I warmly welcome your input. Of course, most of these problems come down to an interrupting of my workflow, but I've actually had to find a new DAW for video due to number 1. These would also be really useful functions. It would be great if it would simply create the relevant midi or audio track above the groupĮDIT: Someone below reminded me: you can't apply fades to multiple clips at once, or add extra automation points to an audio clip's default volume automation envelope. Similarly, when you drag audio or a virtual instrument onto a group track, nothing happens. It would be great if it could also give you the option to create an audio track below or above that midi track for the audio to be placed on. Workaround: Double click a virtual instrument with an audio track selected and it will create a new midi trackĬonversely, when you drag an audio clip onto a midi track, it asks how you'd like it to convert the audio to midi. It would be great if that would simply trigger a command to create a new midi track below or above the audio track and place your virtual instrument on that track. When you drag a virtual instrument onto an audio track, nothing happens. The lack of either of these two options makes it really hard to separate different audio clips on the same track) (Often I start an idea by putting different audio clips on the same track, and then later decide to process them differently. You cannot select two individual audio clips on the same track without selecting the space in between them, nor is there an option to select all instances of a single clip. There's no option to quickly maximize and minimize midi window (you must drag it up/down with the mouse each time) Workaround: Keep the midi window maximized and toggle using 'Shift + Tab', and with a gaming mouse you can use a script to map 'Shift + Tab' to a single button on your mouse. (I know this is just how standard zooming functions, but it would be great if zooming in very near the edge stuck to that edge)

When you zoom in near the edge of arrangement view, the edge disappears. ( It is necessary to draw a new automation that ends at the default value and then delete it to get Ableton to register where the automation was). Midi envelope automation bug where automation does not return to the value displayed. Workaround: drag the audio clip you want to hotswap onto the clip in file manager (Usually I've already found the audio I want to hotswap in, and being dragged back to a different path where the original clip is means having to find it again). When you do click hotswap, it jumps to the original audio clip's path. There's no quick way to hotswap audio (file manage -> project -> find clip -> click hotswap, is an arduous process) Workaround: RIght click sample display and click "Manage file sample"

Video syncing works poorly, crashing the DAW a lot of the time (at least on windows OS) Fix: You must have intraframe compression rather than interframe, which you can also do by first rendering with keyframe distance = 1 (.mov file, h.264). I've been using Ableton for about a year now, and although I love it, I thought I'd share some of my biggest problems with the DAW in the hopes that any developers might stumble across them.ĮDIT: with all these helpful responses I figure I'll add some of the suggested workarounds to the OP:
